FAQs

q&a

Driving lesson questions answered clearly

  • q:How much are Code 08 driving lessons?

a: One driving lesson is R300. Larger packages reduce the price per lesson, and pickup and drop-off are included at no additional cost. You can also build your own package from 1 to 20 lessons on the pricing page.

  • q:Can I book 2, 3, 4 or 5 driving lessons?

a: Yes. You can book a custom number of lessons. Packages from 1 to 5 lessons are calculated at R300 per lesson, with lower per-lesson rates when you book 6 or more lessons.

  • q:Do you offer male and female driving instructors?

a: Yes. iDriving School has both male and female instructors. If you prefer a male or female instructor, please mention this when booking and we will do our best to match you based on availability in your area.

  • q:Do you offer manual and automatic driving lessons?

a: Yes. We offer Code 08 driving lessons in both manual and automatic cars. Manual and automatic lessons are currently the same price.

  • q:Should I learn in a manual or automatic car?

a: Automatic is often easier for nervous beginners because there is less to manage. A manual licence gives you more flexibility because it allows you to drive both manual and automatic vehicles. If you are unsure, we can help you choose the best option for your goal.

  • q:Can I do my driver’s test in an automatic car in South Africa?

a: Yes. You may do your driving test in an automatic car, but if you pass in an automatic car your licence will restrict you to automatic vehicles. If you pass in a manual car, you may drive both manual and automatic vehicles.

  • q:Is pickup and drop-off included?

a: Yes. Pickup and drop-off are included at no additional cost for driving lessons, subject to confirming your exact pickup location and instructor availability.

  • q:Which areas do you cover?

a: We offer driving lessons across Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Paarl, Malmesbury and nearby suburbs, including areas such as Blouberg, Table View, Parklands, Durbanville, Bellville and Brackenfell. If your area is not listed, contact us and we will confirm availability.

  • q:What happens after I submit the booking form?

a: After you submit the booking form, we will call or WhatsApp you back to confirm your package, manual or automatic preference, pickup area, instructor availability and next steps.

  • q:How many driving lessons do I need?

a: Every learner is different. A complete beginner usually needs more lessons than someone with previous driving experience. Your instructor can advise you after your first lesson and help you choose a realistic lesson plan.

  • q:Can nervous beginners book driving lessons?

a: Yes. Many learners feel nervous at the start. Our instructors work patiently and step by step, helping you build confidence with K53 checks, parking, road positioning and safe driving habits.

  • q:Can I choose my instructor?

a: You can request a specific instructor or request a male or female instructor. We will do our best to assist, but final scheduling depends on instructor availability, your area and the vehicle type you choose.

  • q:Do you offer driving lessons over weekends or after hours?

a: Yes. Weekend and after-hours lessons may be available depending on instructor schedules and your area. Please mention your preferred times when booking.

  • q:Do I need a learner’s licence before taking driving lessons?

a: Yes. South African regulations require you to have a valid learner’s licence before you may take driving lessons on public roads.

  • q:Do you teach K53 checks, parking and test preparation?

a: Yes. We teach the K53 checks, parking, observations and practical driving skills needed for your driver’s test, while also helping you become a safer and more confident driver.

  • q:What is included in test-day car use?

a: Test-day car use means you can use our driving school car for your driver’s test when included in your package or added separately. Traffic department and government booking fees are not included.

  • q:Are traffic department or government fees included?

a: No. Traffic department and government booking fees are not included in our lesson prices. Our prices cover the driving lessons, and selected packages include test-day use of our driving school car.

  • q:Can I use my own car for my driver’s test?

a: Yes. You may use your own vehicle for your driver’s test if it meets the required standards. Some learners prefer to use our driving school car because they are already familiar with it from lessons.

  • q:Must I take a package or can I book individual lessons?

a: You can book individual lessons or choose a package. Packages are designed to reduce the price per lesson and help learners plan their training more clearly.

  • q:How long is one driving lesson?

a: One standard driving lesson is one hour. In some cases, longer or consecutive lessons may be arranged depending on student and instructor availability.

  • q:Do you offer learner’s licence classes?

a: We do not currently offer learner’s licence classes. However, we provide free K53 study material on our website to help you prepare.
